For many of us, 2009 sucked. We‘re in a recession. The economy is in the toilet. A lot of us are unemployed, underemployed or some combination thereof. We’re all forced to tighten our belts or cut back on superfluous crap in one way or another.
In that spirit, we decided to cut back here at Imageyenation and deliver a more “economical” edition of our annual year-end list. What that means is that we're foregoing all the individual “best album,” “best song,” “best movie,” “best beard” and “best person” awards and just doing a big “best of” albums list.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed listening to all the music on it.

2008 ended eleven days ago. But it took us an extra week and change to decompress and gather our thoughts on the outgoing year and all it contained.
As usual we compiled an exhaustive list of music we dug last year. And we all gave our take on the music, movies, people and beards that made 2008 what it was.
Enjoy reading it on the toilet.

We know, we know... We're mad late with this thing this year. We usually have it in the bag right around New Years, but this year it got pushed back to Jan. 5th, then Jan. 15th, and finally Feb. 14th (replacing the "Top 10 Film/Television Crushes" list El Keter intended to orchestrate for Valentines Day), which somehow translates into this year's "Best of..." list being posted today, February 16th.
Should we give you the old standbys about how "anything good" is "worth waiting for," or shit being "better late than never?" Should we make a lot of excuses about how hectic and busy things have been? Or should we try to sell you a load of bullshit about how 2007 was just
so dope that it took us mad long to compile this thing?
Well, we're not gonna do any of those things. We're just going to present to you the newest entry in our annual year-end re-caps and hope that we're a little more punctual next time.
Enjoy...

Last year the compilation of our "Best Of" list was a lot of work, but it came together surprisingly easy. This year on the other hand, despite putting a lot of effort into making the process easy for everybody, getting finished ballots from everybody seemed near impossible at times. I don't know why. There was a helluva lot of good music released this year. And a bunch of great flicks. It was also a banner year for both public personalities and beards. So I'm surprised this list isn't longer than it actually is, and that there wasn't more enthusiasm to talk about how great everything was. Maybe it was the fact that 2006 as a year actually sucked? I dunno.
All I know is that this is our "year in review" post. It's pretty comprehensive, but as usual it still feels like we're missing stuff. I know there's a lot of records we just didn't hear for whatever reason. There's others we forgot. And still others that we probably thought sucked and just decided to leave off for whatever reason. Regardless, there's a lot of stuff that we love ( and a lot of stuff from Sweden ) on this list. And there's probably some stuff that you love on it too. More importantly, there's probably stuff you didn't know about at all. And hopefully it'll make you go check that shit out before you get too overwhelmed with all the dope shit that's gonna come out in 2007.

Imageyenation and the Urban Alternatives Crew are proud to present our First Annual Best of 2005 wrap-up!
You might be suprised to learn that though this is being billed as our first annual "best of" list we've actually attempted compiling these suckers every year for the last three years. We always start listing our favorite albums and try whittling them down to the best of the best. But the job has just proven far too big in years past and the whole thing has wound up languishing on our computer desktops rather than winding up posted on the site.
This year was different though. This year we all buckled down, and all the crew members ( El Keter ben Tzadik, Emeyesi, Empress, Cereffusion, Miss Behavin', DJ 12XU and even new contributor Add-Mmm ) submitted songs for our relatively comprehensive "best of" list and provided personal picks for certain categories. You'll see their lists below. You'll also find a little commentary from some of us, and a running commentary on many of the albums ( and why they "rule" ) on the long-list courtesy of Emeyesi and El Keter ben Tzadik.
As long as the list is, it's nowhere near complete in our eyes though. So we may add to it over the next couple of weeks. Or, we may not.
You may also notice that there are a number of releases on the list that carried over from 2004. If you're wondering why, it's because sometimes a record just has that kind of shelf-life, or maybe we didn't catch on to it until this year. Either way, it was still rocking our headphones, car stereos, iPods and computer speakers throughout 2005, so it deserves to be on the list. If you find that confusing just take a look at Cereffusion's commentary on the year in review, he breaks it down perfectly.
Since it's already been three years in the making, and that's far too long to make you wait, let's just cut the jibber-jabber short right here and find out who and what the "best of 2005" really was.
