Urban Smarts has a good interview with rapper-producer-dj-Boston-based Edan. Here's some:
I read somewhere that you also play folk music and other stuff on the side. Are you still doing it?

I only call it folk music because it takes on that format of playing an acoustic guitar and singing. But I mean, I don't know if that means it's folk music. Definitely not to compare myself, but I don't think Bob Dylan thought he was playing folk music. It's just that whole minimal sort of singer-songwriter thing, the immediacy of having a guitar in your hand, playing the changes and just singing on top of that. And so sometimes I write songs in that vein, just to get other emotions out there that sometimes hip-hop doesn't really get into.

Any plans to release that?

Yeah, sure. I don't have anything definite, but there's a friend of mine, we been good friends for a while and pretty good collaborators and he's actually now in this rock group called Dead Metal, which is on Matador. Regardless, me and him will probably get together and do something. I hope to release stuff, I don't really know what to call it, just I guess, guitar based, singer-songwriter type shit. But I like to have fun with that stuff. It's not all melodramatic, it's not gonna be too serious or too self-indulgent, it probably will just be well put together.

May 6th 2005.

That is the day that the Universal Music Group's record-pressing plant in Gloversville, NY will close it's doors. Since 1953 the Gloversville plant has been cranking out the hits from Brunswick to Decca, from MCA to Vivendi Universal.

"It hurts because people are still buying records. It's just that the company we work for right now doesn't want to make them," said Hank C. Zinner, who started working at the plant 38 years ago.

Well as one of those people still buying records I want to thank you Mr. Zinner for helping deliver me happiness in a vinyl record.

This morning I recieved an email to look up "King Without a Crown" by Matisyahu on Yahoo.

My cousin said I would like it, and she was right.

Matisyahu ( a name I would not dare say without help ) is actually a smooth vocalist.

So check out his video and check out the Matisyahu website.

I loved 'Ravipops' - so I'm pretty excited for C-Rayz upcoming full-legnth follow up, 'The Year of the Beast.'

The official Def Jux website has audio of the lead track... "R'Thentic."

And it's bananas.

Civil-rights pioneer Rosa Parks' multi-billion dollar defamation and trademark infringement lawsuit against Outkast is finally settled...
Under the settlement, OutKast and co-defendants SONY BMG Music Entertainment, Arista Records LLC and LaFace Records will help develop educational programs to "enlighten today's youth about the significant role Rosa Parks played in making America a better place for all races," according to a written statement.
Outkast admits no fault in the settlement and still maintain their position that their song "Rosa Parks" doesn't violate Parks' rights or legacy, and is protected by the First Amendment.

If you like RJD2, and you like Cuba, then you love this.

It's like watching a three-dimensional slide show presented by a photographer from National Geographic. Only better.

As if serving as producer for The Gorillaz upcoming 'Demon Days' LP ( coming May 24th ) and completing 'Danger Doom,' his collaborative effort with M.F. Doom, wasn't enough, super-producer Danger Mouse is reportedly finishing up an album with rapper/singer Cee-Lo, to be called 'Gnarls Barkley,' as well...
"Cee-Lo and I kept talking about trying to finish this album for a long time," says Danger Mouse. "Both of us had breaks in our schedules at the same time recently, so I flew down to Atlanta and two weeks later we had eight songs done. No doubt we'll finish the album this month. We're on a roll."
All three of these records are supposedly due to be released at some point within the year. In the meantime, check DM's remix of Dinah Washington's "Baby, Did You Hear?" on the 'Verve Remixed 3' project for a sonic punch to the face.

Courtesy of the media section over at Tweet-News.com it's...

Tweet "Turn Da Lights Off ( RJD2 Remix )"

...in MP3 format for your hot and sweaty spring dance-party pleasure.

Right click the title and "save as" to download some hot fire for your face.

Or visit the website and browse around while you download it direct from them.

I guess it's a Japanese bonus track of some kind. But why they aren't tapping dude to remix shit like this for release here in the states is beyond me.

Renowned tool Kurt Loder and his MTV buddies fell for an April Fool's Joke perpetrated by Maynard James Keenan of Tool and the Toolshed website. They actually posted as news that Maynard had "Found Jesus" and may be leaving the band. Yes. Jesus Christ why don't you come save my life now?

Busters.

For the few of you out there interested in such things I just wanted to let heads know that you can check out my MySpace "band" page if you wanna hear a new beat in really lo-fi quality courtesy of yours truly.

It's called "Another Late Night" and it's the first song in the player.

I actually wanted to call it "In The Rain ( Another Late Night )" but MySpace won't let a song title be that long, and they refuse to allow parenthesis for some reason... so no dice.

I'm pretty sure most of the Imageyenation family has heard this in one form or another already. Whether I sent them an unfinished version over AIM or they were there when we were bumpin' a rough mix of it in the Explorer the other night on the way to see 'Sin City.' But this is pretty much the final version... so it's different. Yeah, I might tinker with a few of the finer details a little more, but I think this is the real deal right here.

Props to our very own Lady Glock for being the catalyst that got this beat made. If it wasn't for her getting me out of the house long enough for me to clear my mind last Friday night I probably wouldn't have been able to go right home and bang this shit out like I did. The title's even an allusion to the time and weather conditions when I got home. So yeah, thanks homie.

Look out for more heat... sometime.

The peoples champ Paul Wall got the innanet goin' nuts about gold & diamond grills according to AllHipHop.com...
"We got a shop in Houston, Texas and Shores Town, Maryland called TB Jewelry,” Wall said. “[I] did a lot of grills for the greats. Myself, my boy Mike Jones, the Colonel Master P, he came through there. All of Lil Jon’s grills, my boy T.I. did his grill you know what im saying, David Banner, my boy Steven Jackson from the Indiana Pacers, Zero."
...maybe Zahira sould hit him up about getting some fronts?
